Today, I'll be sharing part 4 with you in the Planning with Purpose series, weekly bite-size tools to help you get going with your healing, impact, and momentum in a new year.

Before we dive in, I also want to share a special gift with you.

I was interviewed alongside Ahlia Kitwana of Little Black Buddha on Deb Boulanger's Life After Corporate podcast and the episode just came out. 🥳

Tune in to hear the story of how I workshopped myself out of my job (and how you can too).

PART 4: WHAT YOU NEED TO REACH YOUR GOALS

If you missed previous parts in the series, you'll find them here.

If you haven’t signed up yet, you can join the email list at the bottom of this post to be the first to receive special offers, coaching insights, and more from my newsletter.

In this series of 5, you will receive emails on these topics:

1. 2020 retrospective and gratitude

2. Hopes and goals for 2021

3. Identify your motivations and purpose

4. Planning + What you need to reach your goals (Today!)

5. How to visualize the future to make your goals come true

Today is Part 4: Planning + What you need to reach your goals

For this activity, you need:

  • a notebook or paper (and your notes from prior weeks)

  • something to write with

  • a quiet place to focus

  • a friend or partner (virtual or in person)

Step one:

You should have your list of 10 goals that were cut down last week to 3-5 goals. The fewer you have, the more likely you are to succeed!

Now, the next challenge is making your 3-5 goals feasible. They can still feel big and overwhelming, so this step is REALLY important.

  • Looking at your top 3-5 goals, break each into 3-5 components.

  • Reflect: What are the bite-size pieces you need to reach each goal?

Step two:

Here's the thing. The best way to ensure you succeed at a goal is to look back at examples of your past goal success.

  • Ask yourself: When have I completed goals in the past?

  • What enabled me to be successful?

➡️For me, having accountability, having a really joyful underlying purpose, or taking time to notice the positive impact along the way have helped me to succeed at goals.

Step three:

In 2020, many of us had trouble reaching goals. UNDERSTANDABLY! Instead of beating yourself up about it, let's plan for the year ahead by anticipating that life will continue to be stressful, uncertain, and constantly changing because the reality is, that's true anyway.

  • Imagine: Things come up and for whatever reason, your goal doesn’t or can't happen.

  • What is the simplest, lightest version of that goal that could still serve your underlying motivations or purpose? Write this down for each goal.

➡️For example, in 2020, I planned to start running retreats. I would still love to host one in 2021, because I'm motivated by creating safe spaces for groups of purpose-driven people to grow together. AND if a group retreat can't safely take place in person, I know I can bring groups together online through workshops and virtual programs to meet my larger motivation.

How is your plan looking? What did you learn?

If this served you, take a picture of your notebook and share it on Instagram or Linkedin and tag me (@juliafirestonecoaching on Instagram and Julia Firestone on Linkedin) so others can try it too.

Stay tuned for the next and final part in the series in one week!

If you finish all 5 weeks, email me a picture of your work for the chance to win a complimentary one-hour coaching session valued at over $400.

You got this.
